Sunday's Lesson Teaching For Our TImes

   "Stand in Holy Places"

This Sunday our lesson is based on the talk by President Thomas S. Monson, " Stand in Holy Places" given in the Oct. 2011 General Conference.

In this conference talk, President Monson teaches us the importance of recognizing, trusting, and following Heavenly Father's inspiration and guidance to make it through the trials of life. The world's moral compass is changing, making inappropriate behaviors acceptable. As members of the church we must be vigilant and reject anything that does not conform to our standards. He said, "we, however, will be far better equipped to deal with [the storms of life], to learn from them,, and to overcome them if we have the gospel at our core and the love of the Savior in our hearts." It is necessary that we communicate with our Heavenly Father through prayer. He will answer our prayers and help guide us in all that we do. In referring to Heavenly Father's inspiration and guidance, President Monson said, "such inspiration and guidance are gifts He freely gives if we but seek them." It is our responsibility to form a relationship with our Heavenly Father and to seek out his guidance. We are promised that as we draw near to Him we will have the desire and courage to stand strong and firm in righteousness-- to "stand...in holy places, and be not moved." (D&C 87:8)

In preparation for this lesson please read the talk. Also, think about when and how you gained a testimony of the power of prayer. I will be asking for a few volunteers to share their experience briefly.

Thanks,

Amy
