Sunday, June 24th Lesson Teaching For Our Time

This Sunday's Teaching For Our Times lesson comes from Elder Richard G. Scott's Genereal Conference talk, "How to Obtain Revelation and Inspiration for Your Personal Life." He says that, "The Holy Ghost communicates important information that we need to guide us in our mortal journey. When it is crisp and clear and essential, it warrants the title of revelation. When it is a series of promptings we often have to guide us step by step to a worthy objective, for the purpose of this message, it is inspiration."

Heavenly Father wants us to pray to Him and to ask because that is how revelation is received. Revelation will come to us when we sincerely ask in prayer. Elder Scott teaches that there are some practical principles that can enhance revelation. Such as, good daily activities and good health practices. We also need to be mentally and physically clean and have purity of intent so that the Lord can inspire.

We can know that we have received revelation/inspiration from God when it produces peace in our hearts and a quiet, warm feeling. Our happiness in this life and in eternity will increase as we seek out and follow divine guidance. Elder Scott concludes his talk by stating that, "communication with our Father in Heaven is not a trivial matter. It is a sacred privilege. It is based upon eternal, unchanging principles. We receive help from our Father in Heaven in response to our faith, obedience, and the proper use of agency."

Please read the talk before Sunday so that we can have a great discussion! Here is a link: http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2012/04/how-to-obtain-revelation-and-inspiration-for-your-personal-life?lang=eng

Relief Society Lesson Sunday, June 3, 2012

Pres Monson, on Sunday morning of conference in a talked entitled, The Race of Life, tells us that many of the things that occupy our time and thoughts are trivial in nature, such as the color to paint a room or what to fix for dinner. But most of us will also have crises in our lives, circumstances that are very difficult to deal with. He said, "In our times of deepest reflection or greatest need, the soul of man reaches heavenward, seeking a divine response to life’s greatest questions: Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where do we go after we leave this life?"
The discussion in class will segue into missionary work, because as members of the church we have the answers to all these questions, and as we go about our lives, we can look for times when we can introduce people to the gospel. It doesn't need to be formal; many times it will be very informal discussions. But we do need to think about what it means to us to be a member of the church, and how it affects our lives for good. We can also be prepared with PassAlong cards, church magazines, or the missionaries phone number to give to people with questions.
